Our Vision and Values

About Us

The Sequoia Women’s Welfare Society is a dedicated organization committed to the welfare and empowerment of women. Our mission is to create a society where women have equal opportunities, access to resources, and the ability to make informed choices about their lives. We firmly believe in the transformative power of empowering women, and we work tirelessly to provide them with the necessary tools, support, and opportunities to thrive. 

On May 2023, the company was registered under the Indian Trust act, 1882. 

At Sequoia, we offer a range of programs and initiatives that focus on women’s education, health, economic independence, and the eradication of violence against women. Through education and skills training, we equip women with the knowledge and capabilities to achieve their goals. We also advocate for women’s health and well-being by promoting access to quality healthcare, mental health support, and reproductive rights.

Dr. Shisam Bhattacharyya
Managing trustee

Dr. Shisam Bhattacharyya is currently working as an Architect, Operations Research & ML Engineering Scientist, Offering Leader & Innovation Head, at WIPRO LTD. and Visiting Professor in Operations and Supply Chain area at Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneshwar Kolkata. 

He worked as Senior Analyst at Department of Analytics and Insights, TATA Steel LTD. Shisam Bhattacharyya also served SAFEXPRESS Group as a Senior Manager Research and Development. In today’s scenario it’s very rare to find an expert like Dr. Shisam Bhattacharya – a blend of strong academic credentials along with a rich industry experience of more than 8 years in the field of Supply Chain Management, Operation Research, ERP and sustainability.

Diptiman Chowdhury
Office-bearer (Honorary)

Diptiman is an Executive at Food Corporation of India, based out at Kolkata. His achievements at national level in sports as a Badminton player and coach is remarkable. Chowdhury's name is utterly celebrated as a sports/shuttling icon in the country.

His contribution towards the society is multidimensional. Young athletes draw inspiration and training from his talent, discipline and hard work.

We are driven by a shared vision of empowering individuals, promoting equality, and uplifting communities in need. Through our diverse missions, we strive to address pressing issues and make a positive impact in areas such as education, healthcare, hunger relief, women’s empowerment, environmental conservation, and disaster response. With unwavering dedication and collaborative efforts, we work towards building a more inclusive, just, and sustainable future for everyone.
  • To undertake Income Generation activities and such other functions pursuant to the development of economic activities for poverty alleviation among the Marginalized and generally to the poor.
  • To promote, organize, support and maintain economic activities for the relief to the marginalized community, especially the women and the differently-abled, small and marginal farmers, indigent artisans or senior citizens.
  • To encourage and promote development of small and medium Industries and to provide facilities for research in design, production-process and techniques relating to small, medium and Village Industries.
  • To conduct Training Programmes for propagating small, medium and Village Industries, organic and eco-friendly range of products and Traditional system of medicines and conduct programmes for the benefit of those interested.
  • To do fundamental research, develop and propagate production & consumption of environmental and eco-friendly products and take related initiatives.
  • To utilize the services of rural as well as urban women and men for such production & manufacturing activities which it deem fit to be use with the intention of providing employment opportunity.
  • To promote and manage food processing and similar training-cum-production centres with a motive of creating / offering employment potential for rural as well as urban people and train the interested persons.
  • To start and manage Community Colleges and Training centres to train urban and rural poor, specially the women and youth for self-employment and job-oriented courses and others.
  • To have programmes for all-round development of villages and rural communities and other for the benefit of all the members of the community.
  • To provide awareness, capacity-building, design development, product adaptation of crafts and proper presentation to consumers and to this, seek support & assistance from Ministry of Rural Development and other Ministries Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), NABARD, SIDBI, other Financial Institutions and Donor agencies.
  • Towards an integrated socio-economic development, provide needed hand- holding and render technical / consultancy services, training, and undertake research and development and all other activities for the promotion of the economic interest of the community.
  • To work for and facilitate welfare measures or facilities for the benefit of the focused community, as may be decided by the Trust.
  • To work towards establishing linkages between economic betterment and social empowerment for sustainable development of the marginalized Communities.
  • To encourage the human resources development educational institutions from pre primary, primary, high school, pre University College, degree colleges, post graduation, and other courses. Teacher training colleges like D.Ed., B.Ed., B.PEd., And other educational institutions as per the norms and stipulations of National Council for teacher education.
  • To start, manage and administer any orphanage, nursing home, old age homes, hospitals, libraries, diagnostic centres, reading rooms, schools, colleges, ITI institutes, Research institutions and other institutions and extend its benefits to society at large irrespective of caste, creed or social status and to acquire land and building and other assets and properties for achieving the objects of the trust. 
  • To provide medical facilities for deserving children's of the rural locality. To start rural health clinic, hospitals, mobile health units etc. 
  • To start and run rehabilitation centres for mentally retarded, physically handicapped persons and to start vocational centres and old age homes. 
  • To lift the public from the courses of poverty, hunger, illiteracy and diseases by starting and carrying out concentrated and intensive programs with the help of setting cooperative societies.
  • To promote and establish, and administer educational and vocational school or institution or college or deemed university and to run the same for educational or vocational purpose, in various places throughout India as well as outside India, subject to various permissions as required, with a motive to render service to the public and specially to economically backward students. 
  • To promote gender equality; empowering women; Setting up homes and hostels for women and orphans; Setting up old age homes; Day care centres and such other facilities for senior citizens and economically backward groups. 
  • To admit students for various disciplines and subjects and for courses offered by the institution run by this Trust and to offer scholarships to the deserving and/ Or economically backward students. 
  • To accept donations, grants, presents and offerings, in cash or in kind from persons, association of persons, firms, the companies, institutions, universities in India and abroad and to deal with the same for the purpose of achieving the objects of the Trust mentioned above upon such terms and conditions as Trustees may think fit and consistent with the objects of the Trust.
  • To work with special concentration for the child and woman welfare. 
  • To organize and take up health, educational and welfare programs for needy women and children on priority basis.
  • To communicate and coordinate with the government local and public authorities on various issues related to development welfare and public interest on different subjects.
  • To construct, maintain, alter, improve or develop any building belonging to the Trust or works necessary or convenient for purpose of the Trust.
  • To arrange and establish and maintain centres of adult education, vocational education, technical training, and low cost education, formal and non formal education.
  • To organize vocational training for women and needy people.
  • To provide and facilitate legal assistance to underprivileged and poor section of trust to fight for their rights and justice.
  • To work for the welfare of agricultural workers, farmers, unorganised labour&'s, industrial labourers and migrated labours.
  • To support, improve and strengthen the economic status of the poorer section of the society through facilitating, dispensing and expanding small loan products to them at affordable cost.
  • To collaborate, assist and join with similar institutions for fulfilling the objects of the Trust.
  • To do all or any of other charitable activities as indicated, conducive to attainment of the above objects of the Trust and furtherance of the objects, but shall not focus activities of profit. The income will be applied for charitable purposes.
  • Any other objects not inconsistent with spirit of distrust and the Income Tax Act of 1961.
  • Other objects of general public utility –
  • (a) to acquire property for the sole use of the public by making it available for public purposes, for example - a library, clinic, crèche or a community hall to be available for public use as training classes, seminars, discourses and other public functions for benefit of the community in general.
  • (b) to undertake any other activity incidental to the above activities but which are not inconsistent with the above objects.
